2023 Sharing Our Stories

SHARING OUR STORIES is a collaboration between the University of Arizona Poetry Center and Youth Arts: UNLOCKED that brings together incarcerated youth in Flint Michigan and Tucson Arizona through creative expression. Through writing and sharing, youth in both communities will explore their own diverse histories as well as learn about and experience the culture and stories of a community 2000 miles away. The voices and words of the youth in both communities will be heard outside of the walls of each institution through publications created by the students. The project consists of three parts: collaborative development, implementation, and outreach.

2023 Friendship Bench and Poetry Slam

Our partnership with the Tucson Hebrew Academy includes the creation of a Friendship Bench, support of the annual Josh Hurand Poetry Slam, and enhancements to the library and poetry program.
